on recombination at sector 2337
thursday, december 13 from 6-9pm

on recombination is a project that focused on the circulation, deterioration and clustering of digital sound objects. it was approached through the perspectives of compression standards, remix culture and postproduction as modes in which these objects are transformed by attrition and constantly mobilized. first and final parts were structurally similar in their use of rhythm. the middle part was put together using multiple simple rhythmic cells with small deviations that collectively sound like a hailstorm and a server farm. all materials from the first two parts were sampled from numerous sources from free jazz to tutorials on how to install a toner cartridge. third part used short noise bursts sampled from filter feedback mixed with some of the previous materials.

this project was made of three parts:

i. on the recombination of codec temporalities
ii. spectrality as aerosol
iii. pneumatophonic lag
