on lossy codecs

live improvised performance at the chicago design museum. this piece belongs to a series of open-form sound performances about the circulation of digital sound objects through the internet and other contemporary media. each item in the composition relates to each other through a process of hyper-remixing in which all sorts of disparate components collide at high speed within arrays of rhythmic structures. digital sound objects exist in circulation and as such they get constantly subjected to all sorts of manipulations, the most common of which are compression standards. therefore, the name of this particular realization, on lossy codecs, as a conceptual frame to address the aesthetic potential of sound which has been eroded by the speed of its movements, like cosmic dust particles entering the atmosphere. waveforms is a biannual concert organized by graduate sound students of the school of the art institute of chicago.
